Comment engagement and AI reply suggestions
The first time you open a comment, a short Reply at your own pace guide explains drafting, approval and sending. Dismiss it with Got it, Escape or a click outside. Dismissal is saved to your ShootFeed account and cached in this browser. The small info button in the Engagement header (How replies work) reopens it anytime. The reply composer also reminds you that Approve saves for later and Send queues the reply directly.
Open a posted post and expand Engagement to read available comments and replies from its connected platforms. Use the platform control to narrow the list and the sort control to choose Newest first, Oldest first, or Most detailed first. All includes active comments and an Ignored (N) section at the bottom; Unreplied hides comments the account has already answered and ignored comments. Drafts appears when this post has an unsent, unqueued reply draft and shows only active drafts, whether they are still Draft ready or already Approved. The three filter controls stay on one row, with shorter dropdown labels in narrow panels. Drafts disappears when the last active draft is cleared or queued; if selected, the view returns to All. It respects the platform and sort selections; a platform with no matching drafts shows an empty view. Comments update automatically while Engagement is open. Meta comments can also arrive via webhooks. A background job checks recent X publications even while the page is closed; opening an older post checks it automatically too. Provider checks are shared across tabs and pause longer after a provider failure. X checks cover replies from the last seven days and at most 200 recent replies per published post; saved older replies remain available. The X notice includes a Reply on X button that opens this post on X in a new tab. If a post was published to multiple X accounts, each destination has its own labeled button. The notice can be closed for this browser session or hidden for this profile in this browser with Don’t show again. Hiding the notice does not change X’s reply rules.
ShootFeed refreshes comments in the background for recent posted Instagram, Facebook, Threads and X posts where comment access was requested or Engagement was already used. Existing tenant boundaries and platform permission gates remain in force. A temporary provider error or timeout is retried automatically. If a platform confirms missing or revoked comment permission, Notifications and Engagement explain that your approval is required. Fix access opens the affected account in Settings → Profiles, where Allow comment access starts provider authorization. Healthy Threads accounts do not show a routine refresh button. Closing a warning hides it for this visit without stopping automatic checks. If an Instagram comment was removed outside ShootFeed but remains in its saved list, Delete clears that stale entry only after Instagram confirms it is absent from the post's complete current comment list.
Choose List to browse comments together or Focus to work on one comment at a time. Your List or Focus preference stays selected as you move between posts. Each post remembers its own All, Unreplied, or Drafts filter when you return to it; a new post starts on All. In Focus, the reply area stays open, Prev and Next move between comments, and the count shows your position in the filtered view. In List, the row shows how many comments match the filter and you can expand or collapse individual comments. The Ignored section appears only in List.
Expand a comment in List and choose Suggest reply for an editable AI draft; Regenerate Reply replaces it. For batches, use Most detailed first and Unreplied. The button says Draft first 10, Draft next 10, or Draft last N based on the current view. It says Draft 1, Draft all N when no drafts exist in the view and the batch covers every eligible comment. Each click prepares up to ten eligible drafts in filter order, trying at most 30 comments. Replied, drafted, flagged, or actively typed comments are skipped; progress stays in the button. Drafting alone never sends replies.
Use Approve to mark the exact reply text reviewed. If another comment needs attention in Focus, it opens next; in List, another unreviewed draft in the current view opens next. If none remains, the reply box closes in List. The card says Approved while the save completes; if saving fails, the approval reverts and the edited text is available when you reopen that reply. Approval does not send the reply. Send approved (N) queues only approved drafts in the current platform, sort, and All/Unreplied/Drafts view, after confirmation. Both approved batches and individual Send actions use the same per-account queue, which sends no faster than one reply per minute per connected profile. A queued reply can wait for earlier replies and its status says Queued; tapping Send does not mean the platform has received it yet. The queue offers Pause or Stop. Stop cancels pending replies, but one already in progress can finish. Uncertain outcomes pause the queue rather than automatically retrying. Use Check after verifying each reply on the platform, then confirm Sent there or Not sent; the latter returns it to an unapproved draft. Clear drafts removes saved drafts in the current view after confirmation, but cannot clear a queued send. For an individual reply, choose Send or press Enter without approving first. Send remains available while a draft autosave finishes; queueing feedback appears immediately, and the exact edited reply is then queued. Shift+Enter adds a line. The temporary Queueing reply… row appears while the queue accepts it. If queueing fails, the row disappears, the text remains, and an error appears. Deletion likewise hides a comment or reply immediately and restores it on failure. Confirming deletion of your published Instagram reply removes it from Instagram and clears the original comment’s reply box and saved approval. Older drafts do not return after refresh. The comment becomes Unreplied unless another published reply from your account remains. If deletion fails, the reply and draft return.
Reply suggestions use the account that published the post, saved subject credits and confident face matches to distinguish the creator from the people pictured. Praise for a photograph can receive a thank-you. A personal compliment about someone else gets a neutral acknowledgment rather than a thank-you on their behalf. A recognized owner in their own photo can accept personal praise, even when their title is Photographer. On collaborator or group posts, named people and platform handles help identify the intended recipient; uncertain personal praise receives a neutral acknowledgment. Ambiguous complex comments may need a personal reply. Previously saved drafts do not change automatically; choose Regenerate Reply to make a new suggestion under the current style rules.
For a safe emoji-only comment, the draft can also be emoji-only: a positive gesture gets a friendly smile, while a harmless but unclear emoji can get a light acknowledgment without assigning it a meaning. Clearly distressed or sensitive emojis are not auto-echoed. A profile set to use no emojis still gets a worded reply. Allow emoji-only responses to written compliments separately controls occasional emoji-only answers to compliments written in words. Always include one under Emoji use adds an emoji to every generated reply, even when the commenter used none.
A comment with a saved, unsent AI suggestion shows a small blue Draft ready indicator beside the commenter’s name, whether the comment is collapsed or expanded. A green Approved indicator means the exact current text was approved for queueing; neither indicator confirms publishing. Queued means its send is still pending or being checked. These indicators disappear after Clear or a confirmed Send.
Use Ignore beside Approve to move an unwanted comment to the muted Ignored (N) section at the bottom of All. Ignored comments stay on the original platform but are skipped by reply drafting, approval, and sending. A saved draft remains, but its approval is cleared. Restore returns the comment and its unreviewed draft to the active list. If you have unsaved reply edits, confirm before discarding those edits. A reply already queued, sending, or awaiting uncertain-outcome review must be stopped or resolved before Ignore is available.
If a requested suggestion needs a personal response instead, a yellow Needs you indicator appears in the same place even while the comment is collapsed. Expand it to read the reason. The X hides the indicator and note in this browser, including after refresh. The muted Needs you button can show the reason again, and the X can hide it again without restoring the indicator. Dismissal does not remove the saved safety flag: the button cannot generate a draft, the tone selector is disabled, and future batches still skip that comment. You can still write and send a personal reply.
Clear empties the current reply box and clears its saved AI draft. The empty state remains when the comment is reopened or the page is refreshed. Use Suggest reply if you want a new draft afterward. Clearing never publishes a reply.
Reply-box emojis are loaded with Engagement, so they are ready when you open a reply. They use saved favorites, or 😊 ❤️ 🫶 🙏 if empty. Gesture emojis follow the profile's skin tone. Edit opens the Favorite emojis picker. Choose Add emojis, select individual emojis, and remove them with ×. Use defaults restores the clearly labeled fallback. Favorites are individual shortcuts and choices for AI suggestions, not a set inserted together into every reply. Ordinary text cannot be saved as a favorite emoji. Tab skips the row; Alt+Down enters it, arrows navigate, and Escape returns to the field. On mobile, opening the reply box brings the full composer, including Send, above the keyboard. Swiping away closes the keyboard; tap the field to return.
Settings → Comment Replies has an All Profiles baseline. Custom profiles keep their settings; Use All Profiles settings resets one. Suggestions run only when you request them; there is no automatic-reply toggle. Reply style sets the profile default used by the reply dropdown; you can override it for one comment. Additional guidance refines every style, or supplies the main direction when Custom is selected. Options include thank-you phrases, length, emoji frequency/style, emoji-only answers, skin tone, language, links, and topics, language, or emojis to avoid. Listed emojis are excluded from new AI drafts even if they appear in favorites or emoji use is set to Always. Generated replies exclude terms of endearment. Yellow is the default skin tone; faces and hearts are unchanged. A synthetic example previews the style without sending. Sensitive comments involving threats, self-harm, minors, sexual content, advice, complaints, disputes, tragedy, politics, or private information are marked Needs you. Provider permissions still control publishing. Do not paste secrets or private information into replies; contact support if a reply fails after reconnecting the account.
Admitted users can use Engagement on their own social profiles without a separate owner/beta feature tier. Each provider still requires a valid account grant. Normal Facebook and eligible X replies are available through their approved permissions. Instagram and Threads reply access remains limited to the existing authorized tester path while Meta review is pending. Normal Threads authorization requests posting and insights, without adding the pending reply permissions. Existing authorized testers can use Allow comment access after a confirmed access warning.
X allows API replies only when the author has explicitly @mentioned your connected X account or quoted one of its posts. ShootFeed verifies the target conversation and this permission immediately before publishing. Other replies must be sent on X. A verified refusal before publishing skips the item and pauses the queue with an explanation; it is not reported as a sent reply. An unconfirmed publishing outcome still requires reconciliation before retrying.
Comment Replies settings shows a muted Saved button when unchanged, Save Changes after an edit, and Saving… during the save request. A failed save keeps the edited settings available to retry.
Getting Started includes Set your comment reply style, which opens Comment Replies and records that review. Saving reply settings directly also completes the step. Thank-you phrases and other instructions preserve spaces and newlines as you type; saving trims and bounds the stored text.
Pinterest does not expose comment-reading or comment-reply endpoints in its public API. Open a published Pin using View Pin / reply on Pinterest and reply there. A Pinterest connection includes publishing and live Pin results, but does not add Pinterest to ShootFeed's comment inbox.
## Posts removed on a platform
If a platform cannot load the original post because it may have been deleted, made private or become inaccessible, Engagement explains that the post is unavailable. That ambiguous response does not request Fix access. Previously saved conversations remain readable, but reply drafting and sending for that destination are unavailable until a successful refresh can load it again. Other destinations on the ShootFeed post remain independent. A refresh failure does not mean there are zero comments. Confirmed missing or revoked permissions still use the access-recovery message. Deleting a native post does not delete or republish the original ShootFeed post.
